"So grow tall Sugarcane,
Eat that soil, drink the rain,
But know they'll chase you if you play their little game,
so run, run fast Sugarcane."
Well, yesterday was a gloriously simple day. Sick Df was way easier than sick E. She was old enough to want to do nothing when she felt bad...so we watched a movie, read a book, she slept I blogged, things of that nature. I can't remember much else of the day...or even what I had for dinner. Oh that's right...some kind of spinach thing with yogurt, the first thing I requested to not eat more than a taste of. D spent a lot of time with E last night...it's been clear E has missed him so he's been going out of his way to do things with him. He played Playstation with him after dinner, changed him, got him ready for bed, and even layed in bed with him and talked for quite some time. I love seeing those moments. Then he went and did the same with Df. After they went to bed, A had everyone bring out all the kid's ski stuff to go through. She made piles of things she wanted me to get them to try on...E's is huge. I am really dreading making him do that. He's going to hate it. Before that though, she told Sheeren, "he needs to try this on" and she took the things and went to his room. Yelling in Turkish followed and I heard D tell A to "slow down, slow down." I was shocked. I've never seen it...but then again, I've never seen her yell at anyone while he was around. I wondered at first why he said it in English then figured it probably had something to do with not wanting them to know what he was saying so it wouldn't seem like he was underminding her in front of them. She walked out and said to me, "How stupid is that? I said he should try it on and she goes in to do it now! He's in bed! It's 9:30! Who in their right frame of mind would do that?" She had a point. It was a really dumb thing to do. Even I wouldn't do that. "Maybe it was a reflex? You know, she's so used to do what you say right after you tell her." "No, I don't accept that." "I agree...it doesn't make sense." "Exactly, it doesn't make any sense." Then things really got fun when they brought out the fleece pull overs and they had been ironed wrong. "Do you see this?! Look at this crease!" I don't see a thing! What do I say? Nothing, opt for nothing. "Hmmm." Then she pulled out some other ones..."Look at this! I can't wear these! They've been burned!" At least I could see that one...but it didn't look like burn marks, it looked like creases. "Well, if you don't think you can wear them, I might have too. I'm afraid I'm not prepared enough for wherever we're going" She told me she could loan me some things...so she gave me a pair of one of those whatchamacallems...that go over your pants to protect you from snow (they're white by the way...VERY flattering) and two fleece sweaters...one of which I tried on and it was Df's so we'll see about that. It sounded like I wouldn't be skiing...she said "The kids will be gone skiing all day" which means I won't. Which I guess is good...I just wonder what I will be doing...or how long we'll be gone. I need to ask a lot of questions. Apparently, Sheeren couldn't find a bag of some of the things. "How can she say that? That is her job to know! She put it away! Things like this really piss me off. Sheeren really pisses me off sometimes in case you hadn't noticed." "I might have picked up on it." I found out also that she and Cavit have been working with them about a year and Vala only about a month! I never would have guessed! She apparently took her cousin's job here. Interesting, huh? Personally, I just wanted to go to bed. I had a huge headache and I had asked her for some medicine but she never got it. When I asked her again I said I would get it if she just told me where it was. She (begrudingly) left to get it and came back with ONE advil. "We order this kind of medicine from the states because it is very expensive here." "Oh, I'll just tell Dad to send me some in the box" "I don't mind giving you some of ours" Oh clearly. Anyway, I chatted with some people for a bit then went to bed...Df would be staying home again so no nap. I was so hoping she'd sleep late but she got up when E did so that was unfortunate. Apparently, she had a huge fever during the night and A had slept with her. So A ate with us and left pretty early...she had a lunch date and some other things today, and Df and I started going through their pictures for their albums. Oh that's right! Last night we watched Finding Neverland! It was glorious! A cried! "So they lost their father and now their mother! That isn't fair!" "No." "I don't know why it has to be like that." And it had taken me so long to find the DVD, I came up stairs and said, "A, I would like to alphabetize your DVDs for you. Please let me." And then something awful happened...a lightbulb went off in her head. So much so that she changed the direction she was walking, charged up to me, and grabbed me by both arms. "I have an idea for you Caitlin!" "Do you?" "You're going to love it! You're going to thank me!" I could tell by her pleased tone this was not the case at all. "Is it alphabetizing your DVDS?" Hopeful smile. "No...but that you can do to! You can do our albums!" "What?" Since I've been here I've heard at least five complaints about the fact they never made an album for E, Df, or their wedding. "I can't scrapbook." "No no, it's just putting them in the sleeves." "But how am I supposed to know which ones you want?" "Just use your judgement" Then, to really seal th deal, Df says, "Yay! We can start mine tomorrow!" "There! Perfect! Something for you and Df to do together!" So...as soon as A left, Df pulls the pictures down. "Didn't your medicine make you drowsy? Don't you want to sleep?" "No, let's do my pictures." SIX, huge picture boxes full...and in no apparent order at all. Oh, and by the way, Df lost interested after 15 minutes...only after she had pulled out all the pictures from different boxes. I spent the morning making three piles, Df, E, and Wedding. Df's is HUGE, E's is tiny, and Wedding is practically non-existent. They're not here. AND they printed them in all different sizes when only 4x6s will fit in the album they have. At first, I will admit that I enjoyed it...there were a lot from before the kids were born of A and D out and about. I liked seeing them as the people they were before I came to them...and you can tell that they are happy together. Which for some reason, made me very happy. It was odd to see A with other boyfriends, different colored hair, funny outfits (which gave me a sick kind of pleasure) but after a while I got fed up....there's no way I can do this. These aren't my memories. She should have to sort them herself. So after I made the three piles I set them out and was finished. Eren came down and played Scrabble with us...he can't really spell, which I thought was interesting. And when I would put words down...he told me I was making them up. No. Both "awe" and "wed" are real words, sir. Then we ate lunch and it was SO good. Eren made them make orange juice for Df then she wouldn't drink it. So I told her she had to at least drink all of her water before leaving the table. "Can you hand me my Nintendo DS?" "After you drink your water" She took a sip then went to get it. I picked it up and said "After you FINISH your water." And then, it was like dealing with E. She grabbed at me and started pouting and whining obnoxiously. I was shocked at how quickly it had happened. "Stop whining and sit down. You have less than half left." "I don't want to drink it." "If you aren't going to drink your Orange Juice, you need to drink this. Fluids are important when you're sick." "Well then I'll sit here and not drink." "Man, you're going to be bored." "Ok." So I sat with her for a while and Eren and I both told her she was wasting her time and could have been done by now. So I got up...with her Nintendo DS and sat in the living room...to which Df responded with drinking the rest of her water (which took TWO seconds) and then we tried on her ski clothes (unwillingly) then I gave her her game. Now she's playing and I am blogging...still dreading making E try on as his pile is HUGE. Oh! Yilmus got me a phone! Or rather...got me a card for A's old ones...which is chalk full of contacts I don't know. I'm going to ask if I can delete them...and I'll let you guys know when I have the number. Cavit spent way too long tying to set it up for me...he even converted the phone's menu to English! God bless him! Last night, I told A, "Assuming Df goes to school Wednesday, can that be the day I get to go shop because I really am running low on some things." Instead of saying yes though, she just offered to give me some of the things I was running low on. I KNEW IT! I knew I shouldn't get excited. I'm going to keep pushing anyway. Although, I wouldn't really mind. I'd like to have some time to myself...it's been so long. I want to start this new software I downloaded to learn Turkish and I want to start the Purpose Driven Life also...which is surprisingly sitting on their bookshelf in the TV room! Oh well, we'll see how it goes. I need to learn my way around the laundry room too. Who knows when that will happen. Anyway, that's all for now I think. I really have to go to the bathroom but have been too afraid to leave my computer unattended. What I Learned Today: Youtube doesn't work here because someone posted something offensive to Turkey. When asked to remove it, YouTube said that they couldn't because people were allowed to post whatever the want. So Turkey said, "Fine, we just won't use you...for a year." Isn't that odd?
